"The new technology is enabling us to have our first comprehensive asset register, which tells us who 'owns' what space and what that space is used for"

- Malcolm Whitehead, Financial Controller and Administration Manager of the Facilities Management Division, Natural History Museum

Mass has become the choice provider of IWMS (Integrated Work Management Systems) for the big three in South Kensington; The National Museum of Science and Industry, The Victoria and Albert Museum and now the Natural History Museum.

ARCHIBUS is the premier global Solution for Total Infrastructure and Facilities Management, saving 4 million users over $100 billion annually. Modules include Project Management, Strategic Planning, Design Management for AutoCAD and Revit, Hoteling, Building Operations Management, Environmental Sustainability and Geospatial Extensions for ESRI.

The National Museum of Science and Industry started using the solution for Space Management, after identifying that it was the only solution to benefit from having a true bi-directional link to native AutoCAD dwg.files.

The Museum recognised that ARCHIBUS has additional major benefits including excellent user interface, flexibility of database fields and tables, flexibility of reporting, a very robust handheld application and a whole host of additional easy to use functions to deal with reactive and preventative maintenance and statutory inspections.

The solution has recently been rolled out to include several sites throughout the UK.

The Victoria and Albert Museum has been gaining huge benefit from the ARCHIBUS solution since 1998. The Museum realised that substantial cost savings could be gained from using the solution in the areas of Space and Asset Managementm, Maintenance Management, and enhancement of reporting on financial and external contractor management.

The Maintenance function is being managed by Malcolm Whitehead, Financial Controller and Administration Manager of the Facilities Management Division. He stated that "previously, routine FM services we managed using numerous Excel spreadsheets and a great many forms. The implementation of the new Helpdesk facility has had a tremendously positive impact on our administration. Each request is logged electronically by our two Helpdesk operators, automatically given a unique identifying number by the system and allocated to the appropriate  contractor or department. The new technology is enabling us to have our first comprehensive asset register, which tells us who 'owns' what space and what that space is used for. Clearly this is a major benefit, and with each room being given an identifying number there is an obvious advantage in the future from an FM perspective."

Mass is pleased to welcome The Natural History Museum, completing the alignment of the "Triple Entente" in the implementation and use of the IWMS solution. Their activities will now be supported by the award winning Mass team. Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum recognised the benefit of implementing an all-encompassing system providing them with world class functionally in the areas of Space Management, Maintenance Management, Room Booking and Hospitality and Property and Loose Asset Management. The combined benefit of these systems provided significant efficiency gains both today and in the future.

The technology will also become an enabling factor to allow closer collaboration between the Museums. Mass is committed to supporting and guiding the Museums through this process. By working together in this way, Mass will ensure that the Museums continue to provide a world class environment for their staff and members of the public maintaining the viewing of their exhibits for many decades to come.
