Health and Safety Breaches in Bedfordshire

Avoid Health and Safety Breaches with Mass Services

Colpac Ltd, based in Flitwick, Bedfordshire, was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recently after their printing company failed an investigation resulting from a staff injury.

The contraventions came to light after a member of the food packaging printing department was injured trying to remove a blockage from a machine.

Inspectors also found a series of other safety failings, from electrical safety to manual handling leading to nine prohibition notices being served instructing the company to cease trading.

The company was fined £20,000 for breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998. In addition to this, the firm were ordered to pay for the £5,129 legal costs.

The HSE stated that "for a company to face nine improvement or prohibition notices shows a complete disregard for worker's safety and welfare." Continuing to say that the "HSE does not take breaches of health and safety legislation lightly and will do everything in its power to prosecute companies and individuals that do not follow the law."
