AutoCAD 2020 Updates in patch .1

Welcome to another Mass Blog. This week I’m discussing the recent updates to AutoCAD 2020. As we are now seeing further migration to cloud-based platforms, incremental updates to the software are becoming customary in the professional sphere. Developers are now in a greater position to provide fixes and new tools to pieces of software during its usable lifetime, as opposed to waiting on each major release of the software.

Set a Default Layer for Text

'TEXTLAYER' is a new command that is used to assign text within a DWG file to a specific layer, meaning that rather than spending time to assign the various text boxes used to annotate the drawing to a layer, you can have that auto-assigned instead. This particular update will save you time, help maintain your drawing standards and keep you organised as you work through the drawing.

'TEXTLAYER' operates the same way as 'CENTERLAYER', 'DIMLAYER', 'HPLAYER', 'PDFSHXLAYER', and 'XREFLAYER'. These system variables control a layer override for new dimensions, hatches, centerlines, centre marks, Xrefs, and now, text.

Add Multileader Styles to AutoCAD Standards

When working with a set of drawings, as a AutoCAD operator you may have been utilising the Standards dialogue box to easily retain standards throughout your drawings and maintain your organisation levels. This patch will now enhance the dialogue to multileader styles, to help enforce and support standards checking for multileader styles.

Also, when you save your DWGs to DXF format, AutoCAD now preserves block attributes in multileader styles.

Blocks Palette Improvements

Due to customer feedback, and the software now being cloud-based, this patch has allowed for a favourite new feature, the Blocks Palette, to be updated quickly so that it now runs smoother boosting performance within a drawing. On top of the performance improvement, there is also a better level of usability with view setting persisting across tabs.

Tooltips can now be suppressed with the TOOLTIP system variable, and you can also drag and drop blocks with Scale and Rotation settings, which can help save time with repeated block insertion.

Updated 3D Translators

As not everyone utilises AutoCAD within the workplace environment, AutoDesk has updated their 3D translators for the following supported platforms. Updated translators support Creo 6.0 and Granite 12, SolidEdge 2019, NX 1847 Series, JT 10.4, Parasolid 31.1, and Rhino 6.0.

New Security Controls Available

Finally, for those who want to be able to boost their security controls for ObjectARX, a new system variable (SECUREREMOTEACCESS) has been added that can restrict ObjectARX applications from loading files from remote servers or remote servers.
