Legionella or Legionellosis is a potentially lethal respiratory disease spread by infected water or cooling systems. It can affect any workplace, with hotels, cruise ships and hospitals with old, poorly maintained pipe work or cooling systems particularly susceptible.

The legislation relating to Legionella is set out by COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations 1999 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1996.
